DAY: 1
miles: 290
Coordinates: +49° 3' 56.62", +3° 57' 55.98" (Dizy/Epernay)
The "box in a box in a box" (ie the car in the train in the euro-tunnel) delivered us to la belle France with no drama - apart from discovering that the retail value of GBP is 1.05 EUR (great rate, no comission, sir)
We cruised the aptly named Autoroute des Anglais (A26); on a Monday morning it was only lorries and british drivers around. The Valkyrie put some good miles under its bonnet -always conforming to the designated speed limits - naturelment (miles/km...definetely one or the other).
Listening to foreign radio stations has always been very escapist to me, or as Sofia says: 'Listening to Johnny 'oliday always feels like holiday'.
1st stop of the trip, Dizy next to Epernay. Champagne country, rolling hills of vines, picturesque houses and a trail of English champagne-tourists.
It seems that Dizy has dozens of champagne producers, two hairdressers, a seedy bar but no restaurants..So we ended up at the roadside motel resto, which brings us to the second part of today's title. Andouillette. Andouillette 'sausages'. A speciality of the region. What is more, a speciality of the said establishment. Nikos fell for the hype and ordered this. Let's say we've been misled. In fact, we attach no photo of this delicacy or further description, to protect the faint-hearted among you. Those with a strong stomach (literally) can read on below.
Bon appetit and salut á tous/toutes!

While hot andouillette smells of feces, food safety requires that all such matter is removed from the meat before cooking. Feces-like aroma can be attributed to the common use of the pig’s colon in this sausage, and stems from the same compounds that give feces some of its odors.

Niko, seems you know more than I do about what I wanted to say. But thanks for making it look more clever than it was!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to agree with Katerina, this stuff is terrible. I accidentally ordered a crepe filled with it once... DISGUSTING.
